1. Information We Collect
Information you give us
- Account information. Your email address and password, or the name, email address, and basic profile information we receive when you sign in with Google or Apple.
- Payment information. Billing details, plan, and transaction and subscription status. We do not receive your full card number.
- Content and communications. The text and images you submit to our tools and our results (see Section 2), and ratings, reviews, survey answers, email preferences, and messages you send us.
- Referral program. If you use the referral program, we record invitations, sign-ups, and credits, and use device and network information to prevent referral abuse.
Information we collect automatically
- Device and usage information. IP address, browser and device information, referring website, pages you view, features you use, word counts, timestamps, sign-in sessions, and error reports (which, on our website, may include a replay of the affected page with its text hidden).
- Cookies and similar technologies, including the campaign that referred you and ad click identifiers (see Section 5).
- Approximate location inferred from your IP address. We do not collect precise location.
- Anonymous use. If you use our tools without an account, we associate your activity with a browser or device identifier, and may link it to your account if you later sign up.
- App information, such as device identifiers, push tokens, and crash data (see Section 9).
Information from third parties
We receive personal information from sign-in providers, payment processors and app stores, email providers, advertising, attribution, and affiliate partners, security providers, and, for older accounts, a platform we previously used.
2. Your Content and Model Training
“Your content” means the text you submit to our humanizer, AI detector, and grammar tools, the images you upload to our AI image detector, and the results we return. Humanizer and AI detector submissions and results are saved to your history; images are not saved to your account or our databases. Your content is processed by our own models and AI model and processing providers, and we may send samples of it to third-party AI detection services to test our tools, without your name or email address.
Model training
We use the text you submit to our humanizer and AI detector on our website, in the Apps, and through the Extension, the outputs we generate from it (including additional versions we generate), and your feedback and ratings to train, evaluate, and improve our AI models, including large language models. People on our team and our contractors may review this content for these purposes, except content received through the Extension, which people read only in the limited cases described in Section 8. There is no setting to opt out of this use, so do not submit content you do not want used this way. Content used to train a model cannot be removed from it.
Developer API and MCP server text is the exception: it is not saved to our databases, used for training, or sent to third-party AI detection services (see Section 10). For content received through the Extension, Section 8 and the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy control if they conflict with this section. Please do not submit sensitive information, such as government ID, health, or financial account numbers.
3. How We Use Information
We use personal information to:
- provide the Services, including your account, submissions, history, and plan;
- manage usage and billing, including payments, renewals, failed payments, and cancellations;
- keep the Services secure: we use device, network, and usage information to secure accounts, enforce plan limits, detect fraud, abuse, and account sharing, and enforce our Terms of Service;
- provide support and send service messages;
- send marketing emails and newsletters, and choose which offers to show you;
- advertise, as described in Section 5;
- analyze and improve the Services, fix errors, run experiments, and train our models (see Section 2); and
- comply with the law, keep business records, enforce our agreements, and handle legal claims.
5. Advertising and Cookies
We and our partners use cookies, pixels, tags, software development kits, and similar technologies to run, secure, and analyze the Services, attribute sign-ups and purchases to our marketing, and advertise. Our Cookie Policy lists our cookies, the partners whose tags run on our website, and how to manage them.
Our website loads advertising and analytics tags from advertising partners, and we also send information to advertising partners from our own systems, for example when you make a purchase. Advertising partners may receive identifiers (such as your email address, which may be hashed, and cookie, device, and ad click identifiers), your IP address, browser and device information, and information about your visits and how you interact with our pages, sign-ups, and purchases, to show, measure, and improve our ads. They may combine it with information about your activity on other websites and apps over time, and use it to show you ads and for their own purposes under their own privacy policies. The Apps share similar information (see Section 9).
These activities may count as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, or “targeted advertising,” under state privacy laws. You can opt out as described in Section 6.
7. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information for advertising for that browser and, if you are signed in, for your account, as described in Section 6. There is no common standard for responding to browser “Do Not Track” signals, and we do not respond to them.
8. The WriteHuman Chrome Extension
This section applies to the “WriteHuman: AI Humanizer & Grammar Checker” extension for Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers (the “Extension”). It explains what data the Extension collects, how we use it, how and where we store it and for how long, and who we share it with. The rest of this notice also applies to your WriteHuman account.
What data the Extension collects
- Text you write (website content and personal communications). The Extension works in multi-line text areas and rich-text editors, including Google Docs. It reads the text in the field you are actively editing so it can check it. Because that field may be an email, message, or post you are composing, this text can include personal communications. The Extension never reads single-line fields such as password, username, email address, payment card, or search boxes, and it does not read the rest of the page.
- Text you choose to humanize or check for AI. When you select text and press Humanize or Detect AI, that text is sent to us for processing.
- Account and authentication information. If you connect a WriteHuman account, the Extension stores your WriteHuman sign-in session so it can make requests on your behalf, and it uses your account details (such as your email address and plan) to show your account and apply your plan's limits. The Extension never sees your password.
- A random install ID. The Extension creates a random identifier for your installation. It is not derived from your name, email address, or device, and we use it for usage limits, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting.
- Usage and diagnostic information (user activity). Counts of how the Extension is used, such as how many grammar checks ran and whether suggestions were shown, applied, or dismissed (by suggestion type), along with the Extension version and reports of errors in the Extension's own code. Feature-use counts are recorded only while you are signed in. When you uninstall the Extension, Chrome opens a WriteHuman page that records the Extension version and your install ID so we can count uninstalls. These records do not contain the text you write.
- Anonymous quality signals. When you apply or dismiss a suggestion, or add a word to your dictionary, the Extension may send the short flagged word or phrase and the replacement you chose so we can find and fix inaccurate suggestions. When you turn the Extension off or on for a site, it may send that site's domain name (for example, “example.com”) so we can find sites where it does not work well. These signals are sent without your account, install ID, or any other identifier, and at randomized times so they cannot be linked to you. Fragments that could contain numbers, email addresses, or links are dropped rather than sent, and internal network names are never sent.
- Feedback you choose to give. If you rate the Extension or leave a comment when it asks for a review, we receive your rating and comment. If you answer the short survey on the page that opens when you uninstall the Extension, we receive your answer and any comment, together with the Extension version and install ID from that uninstall and, if you are signed in to our website, your account.
- IP address and approximate location. Our servers receive your IP address with each request, which can indicate your approximate location (such as your city or country). We use it for rate limiting, security, and abuse prevention. The Extension does not access your device's GPS or precise location.
The Extension does not collect your browsing history (the only site information it ever sends is the anonymous domain signal described above), does not send the addresses of the pages you visit along with your text, and contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking code.
How we use this data
We use data collected through the Extension only to provide and improve its single purpose, writing assistance:
- To check your grammar and spelling and suggest improvements to your writing
- To humanize text and detect AI-generated text when you ask us to
- To show your account, apply your plan's usage limits, and save your humanizer and AI detector results to your history
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, fix bugs, and improve the accuracy of our suggestions
- To train and improve the AI models that power the Extension's features. Text you choose to humanize or check for AI, and the results, including humanizer versions we generate but do not show you, may be used for this, as described in Section 2. People on our team and our contractors do not read text you write or submit through the Extension unless you agree to it for specific content, it is necessary for security purposes (for example, to investigate abuse), it is necessary to comply with the law, or the data has been aggregated and anonymized for our internal operations.
We do not sell or rent this data, we do not use it for advertising or to build advertising profiles, and we do not use or transfer it to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
After you install the Extension, it opens a sign-in page on our website. That page is part of our website, not the Extension, and loads our website's advertising tags as described in Section 5 (unless you have opted out as described in Section 6). These tags may tell advertising platforms such as Google that an install happened, so we can measure our ads. The Extension does not send advertising platforms any of the data described in this section.
How and where we store this data, and for how long
- On your device. Your sign-in session and install ID are stored in the Extension's local storage in your browser. Your settings, dictionary words, and per-site on/off choices are stored in Chrome's extension storage and may sync across your browsers through your Google account, depending on your Chrome sync settings. Signing out removes your session, and uninstalling the Extension removes its local data from that browser.
- Grammar and spelling checks. The text is processed on grammar-checking servers we operate, only long enough to return suggestions, and is not stored.
- Writing suggestions. Suggestions for individual sentences are cached on our servers for up to 7 days so that repeated sentences do not need to be checked again. The cache is not linked to your account.
- Humanizer and AI detector. Text you humanize or check for AI, and the results, are saved to your WriteHuman account history, just like submissions on our website. They are kept until you delete them from your history or delete your account, except that copies already included in a training or evaluation dataset may be kept as described in Section 11.
- Usage, diagnostic, feedback, and anonymous quality data. We keep these records for as long as they are useful for operating, securing, and improving the Extension.
- Where it is stored. Data we store on our servers is kept in our database, which is hosted in the United States.
- Security. All data sent between the Extension and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS (TLS), and access to stored data is limited to people and systems that need it to run the service.
Who we share this data with
We do not sell Extension data and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We share it only with the parties listed below, and only to run and improve the Extension:
- Google (Gemini API). When you are signed in, our servers send individual sentences from the field you are editing to Google's Gemini API to generate writing suggestions. We send only the sentences, not your name or email address, and your browser does not contact Google directly.
- AI model providers for humanizing and AI detection. Text you choose to humanize or check is processed by our humanization and detection services, which run our own models on cloud GPU servers (currently Lambda and RunPod), and by the AI model providers that support them, including OpenAI. These providers may also be used to train the models behind these features, as described above.
- GPTZero (AI detection). To measure and improve how well our humanizer works, we may send samples of text you chose to humanize, and the versions our models write from it, to GPTZero's AI detection service, without your account details or install ID. We use the scores only in aggregate, and we do not store the text alongside them. GPTZero processes the text under its own terms.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers. Vercel (website and API hosting), Supabase (database and sign-in), Amazon Web Services (grammar-checking servers and servers for our models), and Upstash (caching and rate limiting).
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights, property, or safety of WriteHuman, our users, or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case this notice will continue to apply to that information.
Your choices
- You can pause the Extension, or turn it off for individual sites, at any time from its menu.
- Basic grammar and spelling checks work before you sign in. That text is still sent to our servers to be checked, but it is not linked to a WriteHuman account.
- You can sign out of the Extension at any time, and uninstalling it removes its local data from your browser.
- You can delete humanizer and AI detector items from your history, or delete your account, on the WriteHuman website. For any other request to access or delete your data, email support@writehuman.ai.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
WriteHuman's use and transfer of information received from the Extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
9. The Mobile Apps
- What the Apps collect. Account and usage information, device identifiers (including your device's advertising identifier where your settings allow it), push notification tokens if you allow notifications, crash and diagnostics data (which can include a screenshot of the App screen), and purchase and subscription status. An App creates an account for your device when you first open it and links that activity to your account if you later sign in. The camera and photo library are used only when you choose to submit an image. Text is handled as described in Section 2.
- Third parties. The Apps use providers for analytics, crash reporting, install attribution and advertising measurement, subscription management, and push notification delivery. These tools may share App events, such as installs, sign-ups, and purchases, and device identifiers with advertising partners to measure and improve our ads. These third parties receive App data under terms that require them to protect it consistent with this notice. Apple and Google process App purchases, and we do not receive your card details.
- Your choices. On iOS, the App Tracking Transparency setting controls whether the App can use your device's advertising identifier to track you. You can turn off product analytics with the Share Usage Analytics setting in the App, and notifications in your settings.
- Deleting App data. You can delete your account on the website in My Account (see Section 11). If you used an App without signing up, email support@writehuman.ai and we will ask for what we need to find your device's data. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription.
10. The Developer API and MCP Server
Text you submit through the Developer API or MCP server is not saved to our databases and is not used to train our models. It is processed by our systems and AI processing providers to return your results, screen for abuse, and check the reliability of new versions of our models, and our service logs may temporarily contain request data, including the results of those checks during limited testing periods.
We keep request metadata, such as the time, endpoint or tool, word counts, status, and IP address, for billing, usage limits, security, and support. For MCP connections, we keep a record of each connected AI assistant and tool call, not including your text. If you send your own users' content to us, you are responsible for giving them any required notices and having a lawful basis to send it.
11. Retention and Deleting Your Account
We keep personal information for as long as we need it for the purposes in this notice. In general:
- Account information is kept while your account exists.
- Humanizer and AI detector history is kept until you delete it or your account, but copies already in training or evaluation data may be kept while they are useful for developing our models.
- Content submitted without an account is kept for as long as it is useful for running and improving the Services, including model training.
- Device, usage, error, security, and marketing records, and inferences, are kept for as long as they are useful for security, fraud prevention, analytics, and measuring our marketing.
- Billing records are kept for as long as needed for tax, accounting, and legal purposes.
- Support messages are kept for as long as needed to handle your request and keep a record of it.
- Feedback and ratings are kept for as long as they are useful for improving the Services and our models.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account on the website in My Account. This deletes your account and your history, and cancels any subscription we bill through Stripe, including website and Developer API plans. It does not cancel a subscription you bought through the App Store or Google Play, which you must cancel in your store account settings. We may keep some information after deletion, such as billing records, security and fraud-prevention records, records we need so we do not email you again, de-identified or aggregated data, content already included in training or evaluation data, backups until they are replaced, and information we must keep by law. Information already sent to third parties is governed by their own retention policies.
12. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, such as encryption in transit and limits on who can access it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized people will never access your information.
13. Children
The Services are not directed to children, and you must be at least 18 years old to use them. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will take steps to delete it and may close the account.
14. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, get a copy of, correct, or delete your personal information, object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent, and opt out of its sale or sharing or of targeted advertising, subject to limits in the law (see Sections 15 to 17).
Tools you can use. You can update your information and email preferences in My Account, delete items on the History page, and unsubscribe from marketing emails with the link in any of them. We will still send service messages.
Making a request. Email support@writehuman.ai with the subject “Privacy Request” from the email address on your account, and tell us which right you want to use. Before we act on a request to access, delete, or correct personal information, we verify your identity by matching information you give us with information we hold, such as by confirming that you control the account email address. We may deny a request we cannot verify. Opt-outs of sale or sharing do not require verification. We respond within the time the law requires and will tell you why if we decline a request.
Authorized agents. An authorized agent may make a request for you. We will ask the agent for proof of your signed permission, and may ask you to verify your identity directly or confirm the permission, unless the agent holds a valid power of attorney.
Non-discrimination. We will not deny you the Services, charge you a different price, or provide a different level of quality because you exercised your privacy rights, except as the law permits.
15. California Privacy Rights
This section applies to California residents and uses terms as defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended (the “CCPA”). In the past 12 months, we collected the categories of personal information below, disclosed each for business purposes to the recipients shown, and sold or shared some for advertising, as the last column shows. Sources, purposes, and retention. We collect personal information from you, your browser and devices, and the third parties in Section 1. We collect, use, and disclose it for the purposes in Section 3, sell or share it to show, measure, and improve our ads (Section 5), and keep each category using the criteria in Section 11.
Sensitive personal information. We use log-in credentials only to authenticate you and secure your account, and message contents only to provide and improve the Services as described in Section 2. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you, and we use it only for purposes the CCPA permits, so the right to limit its use does not apply.
Consumers under 16. We do not have actual knowledge that we sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.
Your rights. Subject to the exceptions in the law, you have the right to know what personal information we collected about you and how we used and disclosed it, to access, delete, and correct it, to opt out of its sale or sharing (Section 6), and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To make a request, see Section 14.
Shine the Light. To ask about our disclosures of personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing, email support@writehuman.ai with the subject “Shine the Light.”
16. Other US State Privacy Rights
If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law that applies to us, such as Virginia, Colorado, or Connecticut, you may have some or all of these rights, subject to the law: to confirm whether we process your personal information, and to access, correct, delete, or get a portable copy of it; to get a list of the specific third parties, or categories of third parties, to which we disclosed it; to opt out of its sale and of targeted advertising (Section 6); and to opt out of profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects, which we do not do. To make a request, see Section 14.
Model training. We collect and use personal data, including content you submit, to train large language models, as described in Section 2.
Appeals. If we decline to act on your request, you may appeal by emailing support@writehuman.ai with the subject “Appeal” within a reasonable time after our decision. We will respond within the time your state's law requires and explain our decision. If we deny your appeal, you may contact your state's attorney general.
Nevada. We do not sell covered information as Nevada law defines a sale, but Nevada residents may still ask us not to by emailing support@writehuman.ai with the subject “Nevada Opt-Out.”
17. EU, UK, and Swiss Users, and International Transfers
This section applies where the EU or UK GDPR or the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection applies. Write Human LLC is the controller, except for content Developer API customers send about their own users, which we process for those customers. We process personal information for the purposes in Section 3 on these legal bases:
- Contract, to provide the Services you request.
- Legitimate interests, to secure the Services and prevent fraud and abuse, analyze and improve the Services, train and improve our models using content and feedback, market the Services and choose which offers to show you, measure and improve our advertising, and handle legal claims, where your rights do not override these interests.
- Consent, where the law requires it, such as for certain marketing emails and device permissions like iOS tracking. You can withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing.
- Legal obligation, such as keeping tax records.
Your right to object. You can object at any time to processing based on our legitimate interests, including profiling, and we will stop unless we have compelling legitimate grounds or need the information for legal claims. We will always stop direct marketing if you object. To object to our advertising, use our Your Privacy Choices page. For other objections, email support@writehuman.ai.
Your other rights. Subject to the law, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict the processing of, and port your personal information (see Section 14). You may also complain to a data protection supervisory authority, such as the one where you live. We share personal information with the recipients in Section 4 and keep it using the criteria in Section 11. You need to give us an email address to create an account, and payment details to buy a plan. We do not make decisions based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you.
International transfers. We and our service providers process personal information mainly in the United States and in other countries where our providers operate, whose laws may differ from yours. Where the law requires it for transfers from the EU, UK, or Switzerland, we use lawful transfer mechanisms such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum to them. Contact us for a copy or more information.
18. Changes to This Notice
We may update this notice from time to time. The updated notice is effective when we post it, as shown by the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If the law requires additional notice of a change, or your consent to it, we will provide it. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you acknowledge the updated notice.
