This Cookie Policy explains how Write Human LLC (“WriteHuman,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on our website at writehuman.ai. It is part of our Privacy Policy, which explains how we use the information these technologies collect.

1. What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. First-party cookies are set by the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies are set by other companies whose tags or content load on that website. Similar technologies include pixels and tags (small pieces of code that send information to a company when a page loads or an event happens), and your browser's local storage and session storage. In this policy, “cookies” includes these similar technologies unless we say otherwise.

2. How We Use Them

Essential. To keep you signed in, secure your sign-in sessions, apply free usage limits, enforce our session and account-sharing rules, and remember your privacy choices.
Functional. To carry choices through the sign-in process and return you to the page you started on.
Analytics. To understand how the website is used and how visitors first found us.
Advertising. To measure which ads lead to visits, sign-ups, and purchases, and to work with advertising platforms as described in the Advertising section of our Privacy Policy.

3. Cookies We Set

These are the first-party cookies our website sets on writehuman.ai. In the names below, “*” stands for an identifier of our authentication project.

wh_session_limit	Essential	1 minute	Tells the page to show a notice when your account has reached its limit of active sessions.
wh_anon_id	Essential, Analytics	30 days	A random ID for visitors who are not signed in. We use it to apply free usage limits, keep content you submit without an account, link product analytics events, and add that content and those events to your account if you sign up or sign in with Google or Apple.
wh_utm	Analytics	30 days	Records how you first arrived: the full address of the page you landed on (including any campaign, referral, or other parameters in it, such as utm_source, utm_campaign, ref, source, or via, which can include ad click identifiers), the referring website, and the time. We save it to your account when you sign up, to attribute sign-ups to marketing channels, and use it only for our own attribution. It is set whether or not an advertising opt-out is in effect.
wh_click_ids	Advertising	90 days	Stores the ad click identifiers in the link you arrived from (fbclid, gclid, wbraid, gbraid, ttclid, sclid, rdt_cid, msclkid, or oppref) and the time of the click, so we can report purchases to the advertising platform that sent you. We also save them to your account when you sign up. Not set while an advertising opt-out is in effect.
__oppref	Advertising	30 days	Stores the OpenAI (ChatGPT ads) click identifier so OpenAI's ads tag can attribute purchases to its ads. Not set while an advertising opt-out is in effect.
wh_ads_opt_out	Essential	Up to 2 years (some browsers keep cookies for less time)	Remembers that you opted out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for advertising in this browser.
wh_newsletter_opt_in	Functional	1 hour	Carries your newsletter choice through Google or Apple sign-up.
wh_auth_redirect	Functional	10 minutes	Returns you to the page you started on after Google or Apple sign-in.
wh_ext_uninstall	Functional	1 day	Set when you uninstall the browser extension. Holds the extension version and install ID so an answer to the uninstall survey can be matched to that uninstall.
wh_impersonate, wh_impersonate_active	Essential (staff only)	1 hour	Set only in the browsers of authorized WriteHuman staff when they view an account in support mode.

4. Local Storage and Session Storage

Our website also stores small items in your browser's local storage and session storage, including:

A random ID for each browser tab, which groups the product analytics events from one visit (session storage)
Where you started a checkout, so we can attribute the purchase (session storage)
Short-lived markers used during Google or Apple sign-up, and text you chose to reopen from your history (session storage)
Whether your account has opted out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and whether a Global Privacy Control signal from this browser has already been saved to your account, so we do not have to check on every page (session storage)
Flags that stop us from showing the same notice, review prompt, payment reminder, or App download banner again too soon, and that make sure a purchase is counted only once (local storage)

Our error-reporting provider, Sentry, may also use session storage to manage the masked page replays described in our Privacy Policy.

5. Third-Party Cookies and Tags

Other companies set their own cookies and receive information through their tags on our website. How they use that information is governed by their own privacy policies.

Loaded through Google Tag Manager

Our website loads Google Tag Manager, which loads the tags below. None of them load while an advertising opt-out is in effect (see Section 6). When you are signed in, these tags can receive your email address, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Google (Google Analytics and Google Ads): _ga, _ga_*, _gcl_*, and cookies on Google's own domains. Used for website analytics and to measure Google ads.
Meta Pixel: _fbp, _fbc. Used to measure Meta ads and match visits and purchases to Meta accounts.
TikTok Pixel: _ttp and related cookies. Used to measure TikTok ads.
Snap Pixel: _scid and related cookies. Used to measure Snapchat ads. When you are signed in, Snap's tag also receives your email address.
Reddit Pixel: _rdt_uuid. Used to measure Reddit ads.
Microsoft Advertising (UET): _uetsid, _uetvid. Used to measure Microsoft ads. If Microsoft Clarity is enabled through it, Clarity may also set _clck and _clsk to understand how visitors use our pages.
OpenAI (ChatGPT ads): reads the __oppref cookie and may set its own identifiers. Used to measure ChatGPT ads.

Loaded directly by our website

AppsFlyer: a script that builds links for downloading our Apps and may store identifiers to attribute App installs to campaigns. It does not load while an advertising opt-out is in effect.
Rewardful: cookies whose names begin with rewardful, used to credit our affiliates when someone they referred makes a purchase.
Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights: measure traffic and page performance in aggregate. They do not use cookies.
Sentry: error reporting, as described in Section 4.

Loaded on specific pages or features

Intercom: support chat for Pro and Ultra subscribers. Sets cookies whose names begin with intercom-.
Cloudflare Turnstile or Google reCAPTCHA: bot protection on sign-up, sign-in, password reset, and other account forms. They may set cookies on their own domains, such as _GRECAPTCHA for reCAPTCHA.
Stripe: our checkout and billing pages are hosted by Stripe, which sets its own cookies there.
YouTube: videos on some pages, such as our comparison pages, API documentation, and blog posts, are embedded in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube may set cookies or use local storage when you play a video.
Churnkey: when you start a cancellation, we may load Churnkey's cancellation tools, which may use their own cookies or storage.

6. Managing Cookies and Opting Out

Opt out of advertising. Use our Your Privacy Choices page, linked in our website footer as “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.” Opting out sets the wh_ads_opt_out cookie in that browser and, if you are signed in, saves your choice to your account. While the opt-out is in effect, we do not load Google Tag Manager (so none of the tags listed under “Loaded through Google Tag Manager” run) or the AppsFlyer script, we do not set the wh_click_ids and __oppref cookies, and we do not send your purchases to the server-side conversion tools of Meta, TikTok, Snap, Reddit, or OpenAI. It does not affect essential cookies, Vercel Analytics, Sentry error reporting, Rewardful affiliate tracking, the wh_utm cookie (which we use only for our own attribution), or email. It also does not affect the services listed under “Loaded on specific pages or features” in Section 5. See the Do Not Sell or Share section of our Privacy Policy for details.
Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out for that browser, and for your account if you are signed in. We do not respond to Do Not Track signals.
Browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. If you block essential cookies, you will not be able to sign in and some features will not work. If you delete your cookies, your browser opt-out is deleted too, so opt out again or sign in so your account-level choice applies. Blocking third-party cookies in your browser does not stop the first-party cookies listed in Section 3 or our server-side purchase reporting. Use the opt-out above for those.
Advertising platform settings. Google, Meta, TikTok, Snap, Reddit, and Microsoft offer their own ad settings in your account with them.

7. The Apps and the Extension

This policy covers our website. Our iOS and Android Apps use software development kits and device identifiers rather than website cookies, and on iOS the App Tracking Transparency setting controls whether the App can use your device's advertising identifier to track you. The Extension stores its data in your browser's extension storage and contains no advertising or tracking code. See the Mobile Apps and Chrome Extension sections of our Privacy Policy.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when the cookies and technologies we use change. The updated policy is effective when we post it, as shown by the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
